5 Practical Things That Saved Me Time & Money This Year

September 3, 2016 admin Leave a Comment

Now that we’ve taken on a huge renovation project, I’ve had to justify every penny spent.  I don’t throw money down the drain and since leaving my job in the fashion industry, I have had little desire to squander on new clothes or high end make up to keep up with the Jones’s.  Bring on the practical things, I say!

I’ve also come to terms with sadness when something I’ve treated myself to usually gets dirty or damaged quickly in a building site style home.  (It’s a good job we don’t have many guests). But there’s a few things we haven’t regretted splashing a little cash on and thought I’d list some of the things to make you think.

  • Insurance with Recovery Service
Sadly it was only a few weeks ago since we got towed all the way back from Scotland after the first day of our holiday.  Luckily Green Flag who we use through our Churchill’s Insurance saved the day and even towed our camper on to a garage at no extra cost.  It’s been a great peace of mind and would never recommending insuring your vehicle without it.  The thought of breaking down on my own miles from home petrifies me.
  • EE Mobile Phone Insurance
Another thankful-for-insurance moment was my mobile phone cover.  I’ve accidentally dropped my phone on numerous occasions and although I had a screen protector on at the time, I did crack my screen which needed replacing.  I pay a tenner a month, but you need to make sure the excess isn’t too high, so still luck after it the best I can.  I also bought a sturdier case for my replacement Samsung 6 Edge +.
  • Tiling
It was quite a commitment when I bought my metro tiles from Homebase online earlier this year and made a saving in a 20% off weekend deal.  I tried tiling on my own last month and was so proud of the results!  Most quotes for jobs in Warwickshire have been far more than us Yorkshire folk are willing to pay, but now I know how to, saved some cash and already planning doing my next job!
  • Indesit Integrated Dishwasher
I took a short tea break between typing this list and as soon as I filled my dishwasher from Indesit, this was a no-brainer.  It’s one of the biggest time savers for when I need to wind down after each day.  I’m pretty sure there’d be tears if it broke tomorrow!
  • Simple BB Cream
Sorry to any fella reading, but this quick up of this miracle Simple BB Cream has been my savior hiding tired eyes.  I will definitely be repurchasing this bargain tube when I run out and have found not a lot covers dark circles when you’ve been working like a trooper!

What tips would you recommend that have saved you time or money this year?
