Well, this is a post I wasn’t expecting to write.
But on Monday, I was totally taken by surprise to hear that I’m a finalist for a BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Arts, Crafts & Design Award. (They’re called the #BIBs2017 awards).
This is all completely new to me, so I don’t really know what to expect, but I must admit, I’d love to win with some girl power!
I originally started sharing how I did my shabby chicing projects for my eBay business, but after a pep talk that I’d be angling my enthusiasm to better uses.
So I changed my blog’s name last year, because The Carpenter’s Daughter just felt right. And I really needed to focus on the house renovations that weren’t getting done due to my two weekly food recipe videos over at Tastefully Vikkie.
And now, this blog and YouTube channel is a place where I can fully be myself and do the things I want (minus the deleted swearing at inanimate objects and accidental innuendos to avoid unwanted attention).
(Here’s just a handful of my finished projects so far)
I often get asked, “Why do you even care (about helping others save money)?”. Firstly, I think it’s in my blood. And probably, more than anything, I know what it feels like when I haven’t received good value for money or really bad customer service.
Also, do you learn much by paying someone to do a job? If it’s your first home, then it might be best to hone in some skills so you know how easy it is to fix something later on in a different house.
So, if you have felt inspired you in some way and hopefully saved you money, then please consider giving me a vote! I would love my unique community to become more established.
And it secretly would be great for me (and any women) to go tool or wood shopping without getting any funny looks or questions. “What… YOU’RE TILING?!” I’ll never forget that.
