Today I bought two random projects I am really looking forward to painting.
The sideboard is an early 20th century sideboard in oak:
I am particularly looking forward to dark waxing the carved detail to draw attention to it.
The 2nd piece is a modern day but dated mahogany coloured corner display cabinet which will benefit from a lick of white chalk paint and see whether I will be dark waxing or not:
I have looked into local sold corner cabinets and it seems as though the most popular combination is a pure white with no distressing. However, what I am sure about is the varnishing process. I want something to last for the future owners and I find the upkeep of a perfect finish after merely waxing a project is not to easily maintainable.
If you do plan on painting to sell, then my best piece of advice is to practice to find your own best methods, but to keep your projects and use them – it will give you an idea of what method is most durable and then sell with confidence.
Like all of my projects, I plan everyone to go on Live when possible for my youtube channel and share with others.
I will mostly be focusing on classic looks with these projects as I am not a fan of stencilling, strong patterns or out-there colour combinations as I believe it would narrow my market too much, particularly when I cannot offer shipping on these pieces.
I will post the making of these projects when complete this week.
See you soon,
