How to Wrap a Kitchen Door with Fablon

Here I show you how to wrap a kitchen door with Fablon. In my case, our door had lost its high gloss wrap, revealing a matt finish underneath. To replace the door, it would cost £70, so I fix the problem with an £8 roll of Fablon.

  • Squeegee
  • Scissors
  • Scalpel
  • screwdriver
  • Cleaning cloth

Ingredients

  • Degreaser
  • Fablon big enough to have a 5cm overlap around all sides

Instructions

  • Remove your kitchen door from the cabinet, including the handle with a screwdriver.
  • Clean the door with degreaser and a cloth.
  • Cut the Fablon down to size with a 5cm overlap.
  • Place the Fablon on a large flat surface, paper backing facing the sky. Then remove about 6 inches of the top of the backing.
  • Now line and place the kitchen door on top (good side facing down against the sticky side. And press firmly.
  • Flip the door the other way round while partially stuck to the Fablon then smooth over with your squeegee, working any bubbles out.
  • If any bubbles. pull the Fablon back and smooth over the Fablon again, working your way down towards the bottom.
  • Then cut the corners as shown in the pictures above, to create a slice.
  • Now firmly press the 5cm overlap along the side of the door (one side at a time), pressing with a squeegee on the back. *Try not to pull it back too much to remove bubbles to prevent over stretching and rippling.
  • Then slice off the excess corner, again as shown in the notes above. Repeat until all edges are folded over.
  • Now reattach the door back to the kitchen carcass and pin prick the existing door screw hole for the screws.
  • And screw the door handle back and you're done!
