DIY Chalk Board - Picture Frame Upcycle

Here's how I made an easy DIY chalk board, upcycled from an old picture frame using blackboard paint.

    Upcycled Blackboard DIY

It's yet another tutorial video with blackboard paint.  I have been toying with this idea for the last year and I've finally done it; upcycling an old picture frame in to a cool pretty blackboard.  The more ornate the better but I haven't come across a great deal that I can upcycle so turned to a picture that hadn't sold in my shop as a cheap experiment.

I had everything in including the white spray paint we had left over.  Normally I paint frames the old fashioned way using a paint brush and paint but to be honest, I didn't wan't to spend much time on it and this is what I got.  I was going to flog this, but to be honest, I love it too much for blogging purposes.  Nothing beats hand written quirkiness when it comes to intros and recipe ingredients to use in the cutting room.

This Wilkos Blackboard paint is amazing and have used it on many projects already.  It only costs £5.95 for 500ml and it really goes a long way; just two liberal coats and it is resilient stuff.  I'm going to be sad when I run out.

Great idea. I love chalkboard art. I always end up taking photos of boards at coffee shops, now I should make my own!

You definitely should! I used mine a couple of days ago to write recipe instructions for a video and it was so much fun x

Can you use blackboard paint on any type of surface or does it only work on certain things? Aluminum siding ??
