Four years ago, we fell in love with the idea of buying a Mercedes Vito to convert it in to our first camper van. Sadly, they were rather out of our price range at the time, so went fell in love with a Mazda Bongo instead.
We've loved our trips of wild camping in the woods or by the sea; almost everywhere in England, Scotland and Wales in fact. Nothing beats waking up to nature and exploring by foot (usually coast to coast) and our collie, Hans always comes with us.
But we felt like we outgrew it and that it was about time for an upgrade this year and have now bought a 2010 Mercedes Vito in blue.
It has two sliding doors either side, a tailgate opening (perfect for a little outdoor cooking shelter or hanging an awning) and a blank canvas in the back.
It's been rather challenging looking for something so specific with a trustworthy garage and have tirelessly read reviews, but when my father in law found this one near Rotherham, we looked together. Thankfully he guided the way on helping us find something reliable, with warranty and not someone else's troubles.
A much newer model than our '95 camper also meant splashing a bit more cash on something we're more serious about. It's also going to be my next DIY project converting it for sleeping (and apparently lower the insurance costs). You can be sure I'll be blogging about it soon.
That does mean we'll temporary be slumming it in the back with a couple of sleeping bags but setting off anywhere on a whim!

I’m so excited to find this blog. We’ve just bought a partially converted Mercedes vito, also a 2010 model. We are going to continue with the conversion, as finances allow!
