Tempur Mattress Review (Honest & Unbiased)

Thinking of buying a tempur mattress? Then here's my tempur mattress honest review after sleeping on one for 90 days. I'll share what we like, what we don't like and what to know before buying one.

Note, this is a review around a double tempur cooltouch original elite 25 mattress.

When my husband and I went shopping for our first ever mattress, we fell in love with the Tempur mattress. But due to them being so expensive, we ended looking at mattresses like Tempurpedic instead.

I'd slept on one at a relative's house a few years prior, so I knew I liked the memory foam feel. But, not owning one left me feeling unfulfilled for the next ten years.

There are some things you need to get out of your system and can't settle until you have them. We did, however, later buy a Tempur classic pillow each, but preferred a Tempur cloud pillow.

❓Which Tempur Mattress Should I Buy?

Tempur mattresses come in a few different types. So, for this reason, I would recommend you only ever buy one after testing them in a shop. You can find a Tempur stockist in the UK here.

Also, be wary of fraudulent Tempur mattresses on eBay. Years ago, I also heard about scammers selling secondhand Tempur mattresses by putting a new mattress cover on them.

We picked our Tempur mattress at Dreams. Note this is not sponsored, but we laid on their Sleepmatch machine, which admittedly, recommended a firmer Tempur mattress than the one we liked.

💭Theories

My theory is, the lighter you are, the softer the memory foam you need. Please correct me if you think otherwise.

But the softest Tempur mattress gave us very little support and we hated it. The firmest felt horrible, too as we couldn't sink into it much.

⌛Delivery Times

After ordering our first Tempur mattress, we had to wait 1 month for delivery. My view is, due to them being so expensive, we were disappointed we had to wait so long.

Also, after speaking to other people wanting some, this wasn't a Dreams issue. It was the same with many other companies. Although we did take home some new Tempurpedic cloud pillows to sleep on while we waited.

⚠️Things To Know Before Buying a Tempur Mattress

Now, I'll talk about our Tempur mattress review shortly. But something we were told at Dreams as a feature and benefit was that you don't need to flip the mattress.

Actually, after reading into this further, you shouldn't flip over a memory foam mattress anyway because they can get crushed and lose their shape. You can read John Ryan's theory here about the no turn mattress scam here.

❌Potential Tempur Mattress Problems

Another thing we were upsold on was a mattress protector. And due to how expensive the mattresses are, we decided to go for it and protect our investment. This includes taking out Dreams' mattress insurance.

But, something we hadn't found yet, was the large amount of people complaining on Trustpilot was Tempur mattress mold issues. This isn't strictly a Tempur issue, but rather, a memory foam mattress problem in general.

🛌How to Prevent a Moldy Memory Foam Mattress

After reading a few mold issues, it's clear to me that you may have problems if:

• Your bedroom gets damp (which, you may want to buy a dehumidifier or have vents installed
• You sweat a lot in bed
• Your bed doesn't have slats, or it's on the floor where the mattress can't breath

So, rather than upselling customers with mattress covers, Tempur would be better off selling their mattresses with covers already on them.

🛏️Can You Put an Electric Blanket on a Tempur Mattress?

If you like to jump into a cosy warm bed with the help of an electric blanket, then you might be disappointed. We were, initally.

Tempur don't recommend the use of electric blankets on their mattresses when fitted under the sheets. Instead, they recommend an over blanket instead.

However, what we have noticed is and this is possibly because of the Tempur mattress protector, we haven't needed one. We're more likely to feel too hot in bed or wake up a bit sweaty, which is rare for me.

👎Things I Don't Like

Now, remember when I said Dreams recommended us a slightly firmer Tempur mattress? Well, one of the things I like to do is sit on the bed before we go to sleep.

But, because it's molded around my rear, by the time I get into bed, I'm then laying unevenly as it remembers where I sat. This then means, it takes a while to mold around a new position.

A Pro to This Is:

It prevents me from tossing and turning so eagerly, which I appreciate.

One More Con

Another thing I've noticed, is that after a few nights of sleeping on our memory foam mattress, I feel desensitized to it because it's the new norm.

I guess, what I'm trying to say is, it makes me feel spoilt.

🔚Tempur Mattress Review Verdict

Have We Been Sleeping Better?

I'd love to sit here and say my Fitbit sleep reports have been much better. But, in fact, they're about the same.

However, I do get lower back pain from time to time that I haven't experienced as much since October when it arrived. But, I believe this is due to me strengthening my core through morning exercises, not the mattress.

Would I Go Back to a Spring Mattress?

Although I've discussed issues about the Tempur mattress, I do love it. I love the initial sinking and molding sensation around my body compared to a spring mattress. It's a luxurious feeling which I like as I'm a side sleeper.

Also, I hate springs digging into my ribs, which is why I would move a lot in bed. But, if you're looking for a mattress to work miracles, then I'm not convinced. I think you're better off trying to train yourself on how to get a good night's sleep.
