Here, I show you a drill bit hack that I learnt recently for if you don't have a drill bit at hand. This is using a nail in your combi drill.

While I've been helping my parents' renovate their new bungalow project, we're often away from our regular tools.
And, we're always on a mission with a specific time frame. So, nipping to the shops to buy extra bits is a last resort. For example, we needed to get some guttering finished and for one of the jobs, it required a small drill bit. And it was something we couldn't find.
To resolve the issue quickly, my Dad showed me a drill bit hack with a nail. It's obviously not designed for the job, so will take you a little longer, but we got there in the end.

STEP BY STEP FOR A DRILL BIT HACK
First, grab a straight nail. When I say straight, I mean, not an oval nail. And ideally, slimmer than the screw you'll be using.
If it's not slimmer, then if you're drilling a pilot hole, don't drill longer than the screw you'll be using shortly.

Now, using a hacksaw, saw off the head of the nail.
It's a bit fiddly without a clamp but shouldn't take you very long.

Place the nail inside your combi drill as you would a drill bit and tighten.

Now drill what you need to drill.
Note, we needed to drill through some plastic roof detail, so we could screw it to the guttering.
As I mentioned before, it's won't be the quickest drilling, but sometimes you've got to do what's necessary.
If you want to see how we did the guttering, then you can watch the video here. You can also find more projects here on the bungalow.
