Easy DIY Kitchen Cupboard Door Hinge Fix

Last month, I had this urge to fix a few jobs around my house that I'd been putting off for years.  And I'm now embarrassed to admit that I had a warbrobe that didn't close properly, an ottoman where the lid was no longer fixed.

Seriously, for three years, I'd been balancing the lid on top - sometimes the dog would jump on it and go flying.  Why?  Because I'd done zero research and assumed they were really fit for the bin.

So I'm taking the time out here to try and convince you, as I'm sure I'm not the only one here who didn't I didn't need to replace them after all.

With the three years of hassle we've had compared to a job that took 5 minutes.  Well, it's a no brainer isn't it?

To fix the ottoman lid, the screws had worn the holes, and since I've been doing DIY, the ideas have been coming in much quicker.

    The answer?  Longer screws.  Simple.

The wardrobe?  I just placed the magnets with stronger ones.

But then, I got excited and whizzed around the house tightening other loose screws until I came across another problem I didn't know the solution to and a kitchen cupboard almost fell off.

I left it two weeks as I hadn't had time to deal with it, but a a quick call to my Dad, and he solved it immediately, so here's how I did it.

    Products I Used

    • Ronseal Wood Filler in White
    • Cuprinol Trade Wood Filler Catalyst (wood hardener)
    • Gloves (DO NOT DO IT WITHOUT AS I QUICKLY LEARNT)
    • Screwdriver
    • Drill bit

    Method

    • Hoover the hole to remove any sawdust.
    • In a small disposable pot, mix together a golf ball size of the wood filler and a pea size amount of the Cuprinol and fill the holes.  Do this quick as it'll stiffen in 5 minutes.
    • Fill the holes in question and leave for 30 minutes.
    • Drill pilot holes through the filled holes.  My Dad said it'll just rip out of you don't.
    • Screw the door back in to place and you're done!

Thanks, Dad, it worked a treat!
