Girl DIY: Stud & Plasterboard a Wall

Girl DIY: Stud & Plasterboard a Wall

When I put in an offer for the cheapest house in a nice place, I had a plan.  To get stuck in and learn many trades myself.  I got all excited, stripping wood-chip off every wall in the house and six months later, burnt myself out.

"Do one room at a time," everyone said.  "But I'm on a roll with the wallpaper stripper," I said.  And although I'd do the same again, two years on and only one room is complete.  It's soul destroying.

So since my last post, you may have seen how I got started on the decking.  I've pretty much realised I can't always rely on builders.  Some are too in demand and more expensive than I'm willing to pay and it won't get done if I wait around.

I've decided I'm jumping in the deep end and I'm going to make it happen and reporting in to share my latest complete project.

The worktop wasn't flush to the wall as the walls weren't straight, so I learnt to stud a wall.  My, I'm proud.  It took me two days of procrastinating (out of fear), but once I popped to Wickes for the wood and plasterboard and Screwfix's drywall screws, here's what it looked like.

I made sure everything is level, used packing wedges, measured the plasterboard and scored with a stanley knife to snap my bits off and attached with screws.

The noggins may not have been needed for such a small area but it's going to hold some white metro tiles so may have been overcautious.  They put me at ease for a long lasting finish.

Hopefully I'll catch you up tiled photos soon!
