We've recently got to the kitchen stage in our Mercedes Vito camper van conversion and it's almost surreal. When we bought our van last November, I didn't realise how easy it would actually be. A bit of a scary journey, I admit but that's because there really weren't enough hand-holding types of YouTube videos about. So I made this also a part of my mission.
It's also been very cool to receive lots of thanks and lovely comments on my videos about it. Some have even sent me pictures of their progress because I encouraged them. WOW! It takes my breath away! (Hopefully, we'll put the Mercedes camper on the map more). It's also a little bit trickier because most camper conversion companies or parts are predominantly aimed at VW's, so we've had to really think, plan and design things.
Anyway, getting back to the kitchen. We bought ours from Majestic Campers (2020 update: which I no longer recommend). But, I wanted the best quality we could afford to compliment our work. We didn't buy ours on ebay. We just turned up, checked the quality of work and what we liked. Three years ago, we played around with building a DIY kitchen in our first ever camper, a Ford Freda:
And although usable, it always looked and felt homemade. I didn't want that with this one after all the hard work we'd put in. So I think our new Vito kitchen makes our whole camper look more professional over all. I'd definitely do it again!
And once we picked up our kitchen order, I took it to my Dad (a Carpenter) for a lesson on how to scribe it in to our van because I didn't want to make a costly mistake.
So here's how I did it and it's much simpler than you might think!
