Installing a Kitchen Worktop Corner Trim

fitting kitchen worktop corner join strip

I'm getting so close to finish installing my utility kitchen! In truth though, it seemed like a pipe dream when I talked about doing this myself. I just wanted to try it myself and feel a great accomplishment.

I think it was really the plumbing I saw as most challenging as the rest has felt like basically building flat packed furniture. Then screwing to the wall. Oh and working very slowly and carefully in case I got ahead of myself.

However, for a corner kitchen worktop, I had to make a decision. Try routering which I'd never done for worktop before. Or keep it incredibly simple using a corner trim.

So from the the video above I obviously picked the easier method. So, why I hear you ask?

    • It's just a utility kitchen that wouldn't be used as much as my kitchen and this suits me fine.
    • If I made a router mistake, it could cost me another worktop at £60 each.
    • The worktops are a two man job to lift and me and my fiance argue over DIY. I'm a perfectionist and work much slower than him which can be frustrating for both of us.
    • AND FINALLY, I'm not a pro encouraging every day people and wanted to show anyone can do this if you're happy with this finish and DIYing on a budget with minimal tools.

The reason I feel I need to say why I've done it this way is there's a lot of snobbery with this "dated" finish. So it's up to you what you'd be happy with.

I knew I'd get some harsh remarks as I'd seen plenty on other peoples' videos. But you know what? We're happy with it and that's all that matters.

Great, well presented, videos and text. Good advice, very clear and easy to understand.
      Thank you.
You said to correct you if you're wrong, laminate worksurfaces come in different depths not just 600mm.
