📋 Ultimate Bedroom Cleaning Checklist
Note, you can find a free printable quick checklist at the bottom of this page.
Remove Clutter
The first step I would recommend is to remove any excess clutter from a messy bedroom that may be hindering the cleaning process. Simply store them in another room and reintroduce them as you need them.

Remove Cobwebs
For the next step, I recommend is to start from the top, by removing cobwebs you see with a telescopic duster around the ceiling, coving, light bulbs and light fixtures.
That way, any that drop down can be cleaned along with any hidden dust bunnies on the floor.

Clean Windows
Use a damp cloth to remove any dust from window frames and window sills with a multi purpose cleaner. Then use a glass cleaner and a squeegee before finishing with a dry microfiber cloth.
Don't forget window treatments such as pelmets or other soft furnishings.
Dust Belongings and Furniture
Open any windows for fresh air, then clean any dust traps such as picture frames and ornaments with furniture polish and a soft cloth. Then clean furniture surfaces with a crevice tool if required.
Other areas you may need to work on are:
- Ceiling fan blades
- Mirror or glass surfaces
- Any hard surfaces
- Frequently used surfaces
- Clean appliances like TVs, alarm clocks, etc
Clean Light Switches and Sockets
For dirty electrical points, I turn off the power at your consumer unit or switchboard. Then squeeze any excess water from a cleaning wipe and gently wipe and dry completely before turning the power back on.
Wash Skirting Boards/Base Boards
Now that you've worked your way cleaning from top to bottom, you should have more dust on the skirting boards, doors and door handles. So you'll need to give them a good clean with soapy water.
Gather Dirty Clothes
Round up any dirty clothes and place them in a laundry basket. Top tip: have a dedicated place or basket to store your old clothes which can be hidden in a wardrobe, ottoman or hamper, so they have a proper place.

Clean Bedroom Floors
Next, vacuum carpets and rugs, which I'm using this cordless Hoover that also converts into a handheld vacuum. This comes with an upholstery attachment and a wall mount bracket.
If you don't need to worry about carpet fibres, use a microfibre mop on hardwood floors and give it a quick sweep.
Strip Old Bedding
Now wash sheets, old bedding, a mattress cover, pay special attention to the need to clean stains. Also, clean clothes you picked up earlier in your washing machine or dry cleaners.

Dry Bedding
It's not quite warm enough to dry laundry outside yet. But a quick low cost way is to dry them on this heated clothes dryer in our laundry room so there's less damp air lingering around. When this model isn't being used it can fold flat against the wall.
This uses a low-wattage power supply to ensure the water from the damp clean clothes, evaporates just like a radiator but also allows much more airflow for an efficient drying process while adding only a little cost to the electricity bill.

Storing Clean Bedding
Once your bed linens are completely dry, you can store them in vacuum bags using your vacuum to suck out the excess air.
This makes it perfect for space saving by reducing the volume of the fabrics enabling you to store them under your bed, or in your attic/loft ready for Autumn again.
Organise Your Wardrobe
If you have any extra time, it's a good idea to store Autumn and Winter seasonal clean clothing in your vacuum bags, and hang up any lighter Spring Summer garments, and shoes.

Rearrange Furniture
To make the most of the light and have peace in your bedroom, we reconfigured our furniture in the best way we could referring to this how to relocate your bed using Fengshui by Dear Modern
Sanitise Your Mattress
If you haven't got a mattress protector, then here are some ways you can clean your mattress:
- Vacuum any dust mites and dead skin
- Spot clean by using a mix of baking soda, vinegar and water
- Give it short bursts of steam cleaning if you can
- Or use a disinfectant spray or other appropriate cleaners

Replace Bedding
For a fresh Springtime look, a simple task can be to updating your quilt cover for something light and airy, swap for a lower tog quilt and add clean sheets.
We chose a cheery yellow bed set with matching pillows and bedspread throw.

Add Clean Linens and Matching Curtains
A great idea we always do is opt for matching floral eyelet curtains to compliment our duvet cover. Before, they clashed, but now, they are both aesthetically pleasing paired together.
