    DIY Sharpie Personalised Mug Gift

    DIY Sharpie Personalised Mug Gift

Now I'm sure many of you have already heard of the DIY Sharpie bake-in-the-oven gift; in fact, thinking about it, it was on the Frugalers facebook page when I first heard of it.  It's a common Pinterest craft project and I'll hold my hands up and admit, I pin my Slimming World recipes on there but I don't think to use their site for inspiration... I'm usually working through an ever accumulating list of projects as it is.

Originally I was going to film this tutorial on my Tastefully Vikkie channel and fill the mugs with chocolate treats as gifts, but really haven't had the time, so we made these as part of my fiance's secret Santa gift for some of our friends.

If you are going to do this project, it is important to use oil-based Sharpie pens, not regular ones off the shelf, otherwise it won't stand dishwasher heat.  If you're in the UK, the downside is we had to order them on Amazon which were shipped from the US, so if you're reading for Christmas now, you're probably too late (unless you're incredibly lucky to have a decent art shop near by).

Before you start doodling on your mugs, (I bought a pack of four for £4 at Asda), preheat your oven on gas mark 4.  And don't worry if you make a mistake, just act quickly with a damp tissue or cloth; this had been my main concern and soon found out I was worrying for nothing.

Then place your mugs on a baking tray and pop in your oven for 30 minutes and leave to cool.

If you want to finish them off with cellophane, then this is my favourite which I have used on all of my family's Christmas hampers this year and tie together with some florist's curling ribbon and you're sorted (after you've filled them with some extra chocolatey treats or hot chocolate sachets of course.

It's not that frugal an idea, but it is if you're going to use then pens a lot more in the long run.

    MAKING A FAMILY TREE SCRAPBOOK

After writing this post, I gave my Mum a scrapbook full of family tree information as a birthday gift.  She loved it so much, that each birthday after that was related to her tree, such as a Ancestry DNA test kit.

Or, I order her birth certificates to put inside.
