How to Recycle DIY Roller Blinds

How to Recycle DIY Roller Blinds

This latest project really sums up what my blog is about.  I'm renovating our whole house (almost everything in fact) and so, we have to save money in as many areas as we can for the pricier jobs.

And our kitchen desperately needed some blinds and recently, I was quoted £67 for a W82cm x D92cm... basically, that's tiny.  And I found an old roller blind for £1.50 that was too big, but had plans to recycle!

Now for the fabric, I discovered something called Ripstop.  It's brilliant stuff!  I can't think of anything more perfect because it gives crisp, clean cuts with no need to hem as it doesn't fray!

I was really worried about hemming edges if I used canvas in case it would sit bulky on the roll, but I don't get it with this.

And it's so much easier than I thought it would be.  You basically just need a 25mm roller blind, so maybe a bit of dumpster diving will help you out 😉

I love the finished chevron print built from stars.  It really gives my plain black and white kitchen a pop of colour and it cheers me up to look it.

So all in all, it cost me £17.65 to make, giving me a total saving of £49.

Here's a list of the things I used and my YouTube tutorial to help:

    • Recycled roller blind with a 25mm diameter pole
    • 1.5m Ripstop fabric (my window was 82cm width, 92cm drop)
    • B&Q Roller Fitting Kit
    • B&Q Mini Hack Saw
    • Drill bits from Toolstation
    • Omnigrid (mine's similar to this one)
    • Fiskars Rotary Trigger Cutter (mine's like this one)
    • Copydex glue
    • Old Black + Decker Screwdriver
    • Old Bosch Hammer Drill

Let me know if you have any questions from the tutorial and I'll to answer asap!

Love it Vikkie! I’ve just done an online quote for a replacement blind that has come back at £107, I already have the pole and fixings so I’m now looking at ripstop fabric, some of it appears quite shiny and yours doesn’t, so you obviously have to pick carefully…
