Woodworking Gift Projects
1. Upcycled chair with pull-out kitchen step
This pivoting step can be added to many kitchen chairs with square legs as featured in my Instagram video.
But I originally designed the idea from scratch in my project above, where you can find lots of including tips, tricks and plans are available here.
2. Thumb book page holder DIY + template
This is an incredibly easy woodworking gift for book lovers! All you need is some scrap wood - the smallest amount and a jigsaw, band saw, scroll saw or coping saw and a drill with flat wood drill bit.
I have included a free downloadable template you can copy, but to be honest, if you watch my full YouTube video here, you'll see my folding paper technique and realise you don't need it 🙂
3. DIY Dog Wine Holder for Bottles
I absolutely loved how this dog wine rack turned out! And if you know anyone who loves both, then I urge you to give it a whirl with some scrap plywood.
I show you how I created my easy template using my folding paper technique, but if you want to take the guesswork out, you can buy my set of plans here.

4. DIY Cook Book Stand
If you have foodies in your life who love to cook, then this easy DIY book stand could be the answer! It's great for cookbooks, tablets and even flat screen monitors or TVs.
OK, it's a bit rustic, but it's super cheap made from pine offcuts and doesn't need any fancy joinery or tools.
If you're new to DIY, then a hand saw can do it all with this one! You can pick up a set of plans here and follow along with my how-to video.
5. Easy Wine Caddy + Free Template
If you want to do DIY on a budget this Christmas, this easy wine caddy is another great option to pimp up a bottle of wine!
All you need is a scrap piece of wood for your materials, cut some holes and slots for the wine glass, and around all the edges.
Then slot some wine and glasses in before decorating with a bow. If you sign up for my mailing list, you can find a free template download that you can print and use immediately through my thank you confirmation page!
6. Cat Butt Art Bottle Opener + Free Template
This cat bum bottle opener just proves Christmas presents don't need to be expensive! It's been my most popular gift on this list so far 😂 You can download my free template to cut out and draw around in some MDF.
Then cut out on a scroll saw or band saw, paint with your own cat's colours, and drill holes in the paw pads for magnets.
Then mount on a wall or cabinet using the same screw holes as your bottle opener.
7. Wooden Tray for a Gift Hamper
Have you seen the price of wicker baskets?! And how much do people really use them all year round? Well, here I show you how you can make wooden serving trays in bulk using scrap wood.
I do have plans coming soon, but it's so easy - just make the frame from 2 x 30cm & 2 x 40cm lengths! Then add a base, handles and personalised writing with a Cricut Maker.
This would make a fantastic Santa Tray or Christmas Eve box, too, but I designed them for a Diamond Wedding Anniversary/Christmas meet-up.
8. How to Make Wooden Bookmarks
Personalised bookmarks are incredibly easy and budget-friendly stocking fillers! All you need is some wood trim. Drill a hole in the top for a ribbon, then sand and personalise.
Here, I used my gifted cordless Worx Maker X wood-burning tool, but any pyrography pen should work.
I got carried away getting creative as you can merge 2 hobbies here together. Someone's love of reading + fishing, bird watching, etc.
9. Drinko DIY Plinko Beer Bottle Opener Game + Free Template
This is one of my FAVOURITE projects I made for you. It's a beer bottle cap plinko in the shape of a beer bottle! It's based on a game featured on The Price is Right.
I've designed it with compartments and magnets at the bottom to catch them. It also has a number scoring system for fun.
If you want to make one, then I've drawn around my design and put the beer template in a downloadable printout for you to make immediately!
10. Old Fence Post Slice Clock + Free Plans
If your Dad needs a clock in his workshop, or maybe your Mum in her craft room, or.... (you get the jist), then this easy DIY wood clock slice is so simple!
All you need is a scrap piece of wood for the back, some thin slices of an old wooden post, nail them together and create a recess in the back for a clock mechanism.

11. DIY Guitar Bookends + Free Template
If you know a musician, someone who loves to play the guitar or just loves rock music, then I have a banging project for you to follow! These are DIY Fender-style guitar bookends.
It genuinely looks like a chopped-up guitar, but in fact, everything apart from the hardware was scraps of wood I found.

12. DIY Photo Transfer to Wood Coasters
If you have some offcuts of wood and you know someone who has a few photos they like to cherish, then say hello to this work of magic!
All you need is a laser printed photo on copy paper, some matte mod podge, and a foam brush. After applying the mod podge liberally to the print, face it down on the wood and leave to dry. (Above, I photocopied some of my linocut prints).
Should you use Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium? Well, I do a test between this and the Matte and got completely contrasting results. I recommend watching my video for the results and LOTS of tips and tricks!
